Stock photos and videos: a practical guide for businesses and contributors

Good imagery should help a customer understand your business. It should also come with a clear record of where it came from and how you can use it. For creators, supplying that imagery is a separate business with its own quality and rights checks.

Start with the purpose of the image

Write a short brief: where will the visual appear, who is the audience, what crop is needed and what should it communicate? A hotel landing page, a local business advertisement and an educational article need different images. An attractive photograph can still be a poor fit.

Stock can support an article or campaign, but it should not misrepresent your actual staff, premises or completed projects. Use original business photography where the visitor expects to see the real thing.

Keep a usable licence record

Read the licence for the exact asset and use. Check whether it is offered for commercial or editorial use, and whether your intended advertising, print run, merchandise or template use is covered. “Royalty-free” does not mean free to download or unrestricted use.

Save the asset ID, invoice, licence version and project name together. Check available model and property release information where relevant. A platform’s licence and release details matter more than a label copied into a folder. Ask the provider when your use is unclear.

For contributors: make useful work easy to find

Build small, coherent sets with accurate titles and keywords. Check focus, noise, unwanted branding, colour consistency and whether people or property require releases under the platform’s rules. Keep the original files and supporting permissions.

Do not promise clients or yourself a fixed income from uploads. Acceptance, demand and earnings vary. Start with a manageable collection, learn which subjects serve a real buyer need, and improve from that evidence. Where Adobe Stock and BrandElevateHub fit

Adobe Stock contributor registration is separate from Adobe’s affiliate programme. Uploading work does not automatically give you permission or a tracking link for affiliate promotion. Apply separately through Adobe’s official affiliate page if that is part of your business plan.

BrandElevateHub is our stock-media business. Its public catalogue includes Indian places, wildlife, travel and other creative assets. Check each asset’s available licence and the current contributor information on the site. A plan to serve more international creators should not be confused with an already verified global contributor network.

Make the website deliver the image efficiently

Keep a licensed master, then export only the sizes needed for the page. Use a suitable modern image format, set dimensions to prevent layout movement and describe informative images with useful alternative text. A full-resolution stock download rarely belongs directly in a mobile page.

Mesh Creation can help organise the image library, document usage and build a faster publishing workflow so the same asset is not repeatedly purchased, misplaced or uploaded at an excessive size.

Buyer, contributor and affiliate are three different roles

A buyer licenses an asset for a permitted use. A contributor submits work for review and may earn from licensed downloads. An affiliate refers eligible customers through an approved tracking link. Having an Adobe Stock contributor account does not automatically enrol you in Adobe’s affiliate programme.

The Adobe Affiliate Programme (opens in a new tab / नए टैब में) is managed through Partnerize. An existing Partnerize member can look for Adobe under Campaigns → Join Campaigns and request approval. Check the campaign’s eligible countries and product terms before promoting Adobe Stock.

Brief the image before searching for it

For a tourism business, specify location, season, people, intended crop and whether the image must represent your actual property. A beautifully lit generic mountain photo should not be presented as a view from a hotel if it is not. For contributor work, accurate captions and location details help the right buyer find it.

Keep the asset ID, licence receipt, account or client it was licensed for, and a note of where it is used. Editorial-only material, logos, identifiable people and resale products need particular attention to the actual licence. A stock licence does not make an image exclusive to your brand.
