Archer AX23 vs AX55: choosing Wi-Fi for a small office in India
Slow office Wi-Fi is not always solved by a higher router number. The internet plan, walls, placement, client devices and wired connection all affect the result. This guide compares official specifications; we have not conducted a side-by-side performance test.

| Feature | Archer AX23 | Archer AX55 |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi class | AX1800 | AX3000 |
| Rated 5 GHz link | 1,201 Mbps | 2,402 Mbps |
| Wired ports | 1 × gigabit WAN; 4 × gigabit LAN | 1 × gigabit WAN; 4 × gigabit LAN |
| USB | Not listed | USB 3.0 |
Understand the two Wi-Fi classes
TP-Link lists the AX23 as AX1800, combining advertised rates of 1,201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. The AX55 is AX3000, with 2,402 Mbps and 574 Mbps respectively, and 160 MHz channel support. These figures describe wireless link capabilities, not throughput one device is guaranteed to receive.
The faster option needs compatible clients and suitable radio conditions. A device that cannot use the relevant channel width or capabilities will not gain the full advertised difference.
Look beyond the wireless headline
Both listed models provide one gigabit WAN port and four gigabit LAN ports. The AX55 specification also lists USB 3.0. Check whether your intended use actually needs that USB feature and what the current firmware supports.
If your internet service, wired equipment or future needs exceed the available port capability, neither a larger Wi-Fi number nor a different antenna position changes that physical port limit. Match the whole connection path.
Solve coverage with a layout plan
Place the router sensibly, away from avoidable obstructions, and identify where important calls and work happen. Thick walls and several floors can require additional access points and wired backhaul rather than one replacement router.
For fixed workstations, a wired connection can reduce dependence on radio conditions. Keep guest access separate from business devices where supported and appropriate. Do not buy a router on an unverified claim that it will cover a particular building.
Check the exact unit sold in India
Hardware revisions and firmware can change feature availability. Compare the support page for the exact version, India warranty, seller and update availability. Configure a unique administrator password, apply supported updates and disable remote administration if it is not needed.
The Amazon links below are searches, not guaranteed matches or stock confirmations. Confirm model and revision before purchase. Mesh Creation can help assess a small-office network when the underlying problem is unclear.
Choose the feature that fixes your current problem
If the complaint is a dead spot behind several walls, buying a higher wireless speed class may leave the problem unchanged. First test close to the router, then in the affected room. A placement change, Ethernet-connected access point or suitable mesh design may matter more.
If the issue is local wireless throughput, the AX55’s wider-channel capability is relevant only with compatible clients and an environment where that channel width works well. For a modest internet plan and ordinary browsing, compare the AX23 on price and coverage needs before paying for unused features.
A small-office setup checklist
Record the exact hardware revision and use its matching firmware instructions. Keep the admin password distinct from the Wi-Fi password, enable available secure wireless settings that your devices support, and review remote administration. Keep guest devices away from business devices where the router’s isolation controls allow it.
Do not infer multi-gigabit wired performance from AX1800 or AX3000 marketing labels: the listed units use gigabit Ethernet ports. Compare the model sold locally, its region, ISP compatibility and support. We are comparing documented features, not claiming a measured coverage result in your building.
