Patch when the problem is isolated
A payment conflict, one vulnerable plugin or a measurable performance bottleneck can often be fixed safely. Rebuilding should not be the automatic answer to every technical issue.
Rebuild when change has become dangerous
If updates regularly break layouts, the theme is abandoned, the PHP version cannot advance or the site depends on unknown custom code, maintenance cost begins to exceed replacement value.
Separate content from the old presentation
Export useful pages, media, SEO metadata and redirects. Do not import every shortcode, duplicate page and expired offer simply because it exists in the database.
Choose the next platform from the operating need
A content team may still benefit from WordPress. A fast product-led business may suit Next.js or another application stack. The correct choice follows the workflow, skills and maintenance plan.
Treat migration as a launch
Use staging, URL mapping, analytics baselines, form testing, structured data, redirects and rollback planning. A visual redesign without migration discipline can lose years of accumulated value.
